Back in the Clear... for now!

The past two weeks we have seen it all weather wise... last week ushered in near summer like temps topping out at 70! This made for some enjoyable outside time, however the snowpack at all elevations began to melt and the rivers all came up rather quickly putting the brakes on any trout hunting (forced me to fish a new lake, which I always welcome new water). Over the weekend a cold front rolled in and the imminent runoff is on hold for now... this happens almost every year and for many offers a prime opportunity to chase hungry trout before the real runoff starts, historically around May 5 or so. The Snake river is fishing well with midges and baetis on top and streamers are getting more follows than hook ups due to the early season pressure we have seen. The South Fork is HUGE! In my opinion a waste of time at this high, cold flow(16,200cfs)... if it comes down to 13,000 or less and is stable the wet fly fishing can heat up.
