Rollercoaster Spring

Since returning from the warmth of the deep south we have had every type weather imaginable here in Jackson Hole. One day it is a nice spring afternoon and you think we are out in the clear and 12 hours later it is spitting snow and blowing like it would in March. The good news is that this weather pattern has brought our snow pack back from the brink and we are looking at ample water for the region, unless the summer turns hot and dry... certainly no indications of that happening.

The fishing as of lately has been isolated but as the photo above indicates you do have a good chance for trophy fish now. This is a transitional period where normally our rivers are high and quite dirty but due to the cool weather our peak runoff is holding back... perhaps the latest start to the runoff in many years.

The trend will be for the Snake and Green to blow out soon but the South Fork is dropping and clearing and the nymph fishing is turning on. One of my favorite times is ice off on area lakes which provides great angling until the rivers return to a reasonable flow for driftboat fishing... get out there, the season is short enough!
